Our Values :
CROSS (Community Reconstruction of Social Service) was founded in the early 1990s by a group of passionate grassroots leaders and social workers who believed in the power of people’s participation to bring lasting change. Born out of the struggles and aspirations of Dalit and tribal communities in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, CROSS began as a small initiative focused on rights, dignity, and justice for the most marginalized.
Over the years, CROSS grew into a people-led movement, building strong relationships with rural women, children, farmers, and youth through its community-centric development approach. With a focus on education, women empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental sustainability, CROSS has implemented several innovative and impactful programs that have touched the lives of thousands.
For more than 30 years, CROSS has worked relentlessly in some of the most underdeveloped villages of Southern Andhra Pradesh, promoting social justice, access to basic rights, and community self-reliance. We have partnered with national and international NGOs, CSR partners, and government agencies, while maintaining our strong grassroots presence.
Today, CROSS is led by a dynamic second-line leadership team, continuing the founders’ legacy while bringing fresh energy, ideas, and digital tools into community development. As we move forward, we remain deeply rooted in our values—equity, participation, sustainability, and accountability—and committed to building a just, inclusive, and empowered society.
